"Banks"
A dream that once stood on the banks of abandonment
And as I almost let go, not caring for my self pride
You came by, through shadows and light,
And took and threw my doubts aside,
Helped me to have faith in this world, in myself
And it was you who was the voice in my head
That told me to know what I believe
And then helped me sort it out.
When you stand on those banks, and look deep into the water,
I will always be there to hold your hand and aver
That you stand for a world of difference, a world of meaning
And I hope that in those times you will think how much graver
Things can be, and you think of memories, past and yet to come,
And you think of me.
I hope when you stand on the platform of glory and fame-
As you accomplish a dream you so much deserve,
Or even if you just need a friend
To ease your restless mind and calm your unwinding nerve,
I hope that you will think of me, and not forget
That I am always there for you
I want you to take each day a step at a time,
And I hope that we can do it together
And learn from ourselves, each other, and the world
And even when the walls of the world fall like leaves above our heads
And there seems to be nothing left but endless fields of decay and despair
We see what a difference we can make
And together, keep each of us strong
So that we may find happiness all along
To remind us that it could be worse, and to see the best in all
And to find the light in utter darkness,
To repeat that it'll be okay, that we've got to understand,
To cry, to celebrate each other's victories
And to see we're not alone
To keep us humble, seeing we do have competition
But to build on the pride, keeping us doing the right thing
To find a way to reach our dream, to see what we can do
To spend all the days of our lives knowing we don't have to suffer
Or celebrate, or mope, weep, fly or fall all by our lonesome;
To know that you have an extra set of shoulders to carry the load
When the pressure gets too great.
And I hope neither of us ever runs out of things to say.
Because of all the things true friendship has taught me is
That joy comes in not only having someone who would go
To the stars at the end of the universe looking for her lost friend
But being a friend who would go to heaven and hell over and back
Until she knew her friend was safe
And who knows that if anywhere, her friend,
Will always be safe in her heart-
Even on the banks of deep, unforgiving water.
