"How Distant the World Could Seem"
I never knew how distant the world could seem
(Even in the backyards of this city),
And yet the eyes of those who wander by
Don't see the true pity.
I never knew how distant the world could seem
In the pool of a small town backyard.
And yet sadly it is, deserted, isolated, separate
From those who my heart is most like.
I never knew how distant the world could seem
From the reality I learned to trust,
For understanding is scarce here and my own patience
Is now tested to it's very end.
I never knew how distant the world could seem
With reality and such engulfing me,
But somehow now, I cannot help but argue
The thing my friend helps me prevent
I never knew how distant the world could be
When all of a sudden, she who sees, who knows
Who believes, who cares about, who thinks and who dreams
As a girl does, who is still one of two minds isolated in an ignorant world,
Seems so far away.
Dedicated to my best friend, Nava.
