Unfair World

"Unfair World"

A child's world slowly melts away
Nights so dark, day after day
No one knows of her bruises or her pain
Or of her mother's daily use of cocaine
No one dares murmur of her drunken father
The couple to whom she is secretly such a bother
A world that disintegrates like burning wood
Long and painful, no one knows to make it good
But day after day she grew more and more quiet
Until finally she was made silent

And now to another world all in the same world-
Of the parents who were too young to care for their girl
A couple in late night, lonely despair
Because of an emptiness that pervades the very air
They breath. This couple may never find joy so needed
But only a little hope a child who has succeeded
And needs them as well, needs their love, and care
Companionship, and needs them to be there
Like they need her to find joy in their home
Where none of them have to be all alone

And after I see these two worlds I can't see
Why the world is so unfair- how can we
Have children who go home every night to
Houses that can never be homes, when we do
Have people who would do anything to have a child
But ain't this crazy world ironic and wild
Why do we have lonely kids and lonely adults who need each other-
Is the world too unfair to bother??
